Obituary for Rachel B Boozer

Rachel Bryant Boozer departed on the morning of May 15, 2020 at her residence in Clayton, North Carolina. She was born August 31, 1937 in Waynesboro, Georgia, to the late Henry Bryant, Jr. and Elizabeth Chance, but reared by her paternal grandparents, Henry Bryant, Sr., and Lula Mae Bryant. Rachel was educated in Burke County Georgia where she graduated from Waynesboro Industrial High School.

Upon graduating from High School, Rachel moved to Washington, DC where she attended Business School, getting an Associate’s Degree in Accounting. Shortly after graduation, while working at Brown Printing Company, she met, the late Joseph Boozer. They were united in marriage on July 16, 1960 for 51 years until Joseph’s death; this union produced two daughters, Donna Marie and Kim. Joseph and Rachel made their home on North Capitol Street, Washington DC where they raised their family.

Rachel continued in her accounting profession working at American Automobile Association (AAA), Federaline Construction Company, processing tax returns, and starting several small home businesses. It was during this time, Rachel decided that she would retire and devote herself full time to assisting her oldest daughter grow her nail business. Ever the entrepreneur, Rachel begin Donna’s selling artwork at Eastern Market for several years.

Rachel was baptized at any early age and became a member of Rock Creek Antioch Baptist Church in Waynesboro, GA. Later, she joined her husband’s, church, Union Wesley AME Zion Church for over twenty years where she served as the Dean of Students in the Sunday School, and the Deaconess Board. In 1993, Rachel and Joseph moved to Temple Hills Maryland. Rachel joined The Church of the Great Commission in Temple Hills and was a faithful member. She was rooted in her faith, her family and her close friends. Rachel was an avid gardener, caretaker of many, avid Bible reader and loved her Bible study group. She fiercely loved her family and often devoted herself to whatever interests and pursuits they were interested in. She was relentless, tenacious, funny with a big laugh and a big heart to match, quick to pray for you, about you and with you. In addition, Rachel was straight to the point, no mincing of words, and once she was on your side, she was all in!

Rachel is survived by two daughters, Donna and Kim; one granddaughter, Chandler (Tre Hardiway); one great-granddaughter, Harper; two sisters, Rogie and Ruby; one adopted granddaughter, Ashley; several nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
