Obituary for James Arthur Barbour

James Arthur Barbour, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, entered into rest on Thursday, November 21, 2019, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, NC. James had been battling renal failure for 14 years and departed life of a heart attack.

James was born in Franklinton County NC on August 31, 1947, to the late Lorenzo Barbour and Sadie Barbour. He was educated at DuBois High School in Wake Forest, NC, where he served as drum major for the band. James went on to join the air force on September 7, 1965, until August 31, 1969. Also, in his pass time, he enjoyed fishing.

James married the late Annie Birdine in August 1970, until her passing. Of this union, he had two children, Lolita Allen (Antwaine) of Garner, NC and James Barbour, Jr. of Raleigh, NC.

James was a faithful member of Greater Pentecostal Faith Deliverance Church International. He served on the Elder’s board, as Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, President of the Men’s Department, on the Male Course, CE Cooke Gospel Choir and Combined Choir. James and Lena together hosted a home ministry called “Saved By Grace”, where you can get a word and a meal. This ministry hosted an Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Block Party for the community for 19 years. Because of his faithfulness and commitment to this ministry, we must continue it.

James leaves to cherish his precious memories his wife, Lena Barbour; four daughters, Lolita Allen (Antwaine) of Garner, NC, Rosetta Poole (Andre) of Fredericksburg, VA, Teresa Brown (La`Pril) of Durham, NC, and Demetrice Merriweather (Travis) of Raleigh, NC; three sons, James Barbour, Jr. of Raleigh, NC, Richard Harris, Jr. of Lithonia, GA, and Lee McCullers (Carman) of Clayton, NC; three sisters, Hattie Williams (James), Lucille Clemons (McArthur), and Vertie Diane Wilson all of Raleigh, NC; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
