Obituary for Carrie Kelly

God in his infinite wisdom and divine love, called from our midst the beautiful spirit of our beloved, Carrie Mae Joyce King Kelly. She quietly claimed her victory to eternal life on Thursday, December 31, 2020.
“Mae Joyce” as she was affectionately called by her family, was born May 13, 1945, to the late James and Ora Annie Bell Bridges King. To this union nine siblings were born; James, Robert Lee, Shirley Temple, Martha Ann, Willie Glenn, Glenn Horace, Samuel Lee, Mary Dell, and Joe Earl King, all whom preceded her in death.

Carrie Mae Joyce was educated in the Raleigh Public Schools System and graduated from J.W. Ligon High School. She was a proud member of the J.W. Ligon Class of 1964 and an active member of the J.W. Ligon Alumni Association.

In 1971, Carrie Mae Joyce married the late Shelley Kelly and to this union one child; Michael Justin Kelly, was born. After residing in Texas, the family relocated back to North Carolina where Carrie Mae Joyce was employed with Wake County Public Schools at Carroll Middle for many years.

Carrie Mae Joyce was very family orientated and showered an abundance of love and care on her family and friends. Baptized at an early age, Carrie Mae Joyce was a member of Smith Temple Free Will Baptist Church where she was the past-president of the Pastor’s Aide. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed watching and attending the Charlotte Hornets’ basketball games. She loved life and lived each day to the fullest. Carrie Mae Joyce was also active in her community. She was a member of the Citizens Advisory Council, Camillian Garden Club, and the Salvation Army’s Senior Citizens’ Program.

Carrie Mae Joyce will forever be remembered in the hearts of her family. She leaves to cherish her memory, a son; Michael J. Kelly, a multitude of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and a village of cousins and friends. Michael is blessed to call her Mom and in the hearts of many, she is forever “Aunt Joyce.”
