Obituary for Albert Brown

Albert “Al” Lewis Brown was born on April 3rd 1930 in Westchester County, New Rochelle New York to Lewis and Florence Brown. Named after his uncle he was the oldest of three sons and the fourth of eight children. He grew up in a loving family surrounded by siblings and cousins.

Al loved sports, playing baseball and basketball in the New Rochelle Public School System. After graduating from Albert Leonard High School in 1949, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for thirteen years as a Tech Sargent. He was stationed all over the world including Okinawa Japan and California. He is also a veteran of the Korean War.

After being discharged honorably from the military, he returned to New York where he met Mary Esther “Tootsie” Boddie. From then on they began a courtship that lasted over 50 years. Al was an avid sports lover, a Jim Brown and faithful Cleveland Browns fan. He wore a browns hat wherever he went. His humor and wit was something that everyone knew about him.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Lewis and Florence Brown, his three siblings Esther, Joanie and Jimmy. His wife Mary, three months to the day of his passing who took care of him until she was no longer physically able to care for him.

He leaves to cherish his memory a son A. M. Al Bakari of Oakland CA, a daughter Elizabeth Rochelle Williams (Ronald) of Manteca CA, two step-daughters Dawn Michele Utley (James) of Raleigh NC and Cynthia Marie Brown of Hayward CA, three sisters Doris Britto of Conyers GA, Adele Tucker of Lithonia GA, Carol Brown of Yonkers NY, and one brother Lewis Brown Jr of Lithonia GA. Grandchildren Stacy Utley (Crystal) of Charlotte NC, Shawn Utley of Raleigh NC, Aiyana Al Bakari of San Leandro CA, Rachelle Williams and Malik Al Bakari both of Oakland CA, Ronald Williams Jr of Manteca CA, and Camille Al Bakari of San Francisco CA. A brother-in-law, Johnny C. Perry (Telza) and Maxcine Bethea (Preston) both of Raleigh, NC; A host of several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and the extended family of Co-Op City Bronx New York where he and Mary lived for over 50 years.
