Elder Mark Jason Weaver was born December 22, 1966 at the St. Albans Naval Hospital in St. Albans, Queens NY to Mr. Levon Weaver and Mrs. Ella (Wyatt) Weaver. The eldest of three children and only son, Mark spent the early years of his childhood traveling various military bases as his Dad was enlisted in the United States Air Force. The family spent time in Texas, California, and Washington State before re-settling in New York with Mark and his two sisters, Sandra and Pamela. Elder Weaver attended New York City Public Schools; P.S. 116 and P.S. 201 and Intermediate School 237 all in Queens. He graduated from Aviation High School in June 1984 before attending the LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City, NY specializing in Business Management.
At a young age Elder Weaver grew sensitive to God’s Word. Elder Weaver along with his family attended the Morningstar Missionary Baptist Church in Jamaica Queens, NY under the pastorate of the Rev. Charles E. Betts, Sr. It was here that Mark accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. In 1978 the family joined the Tabernacle of Prayer for All People, Inc., (also in Jamaica, NY) under the dynamic leadership of the late Apostle Johnnie L. Washington. Under this covering, Elder Weaver received the baptism of the Holy Ghost. His life would never be the same.
It was “In the Tabernacle, where he first saw the light”. In time it became evident the hand of the Lord was upon this young man’s life. Mark would remain a faithful dedicated member of the ministry for 14 years. He was actively involved and excelled in many facets of the ministry. Elder Weaver often spoke fondly of his love for the Tabernacle of Prayer. He especially loved time spent traveling with Apostle Washington and the Crusade Team to various crusades and revivals throughout the United States. Elder Weaver developed an expertise in serving the vibrant Tape Ministry where he would mass produce sermons preached by Apostle Washington to be distributed worldwide. In 1988 Elder Weaver was elevated to the role of Youth Leader of the newly created Youth Department. Elder Weaver was also a graduate of the Tabernacle Bible Institute, completing many of the courses offered. Elder Weaver was an avid lover of the music ministry. Of all the ministerial responsibilities faithfully executed, he will forever be remembered for playing the drums. From the children’s choir, to the Brotherhood Choir, and finally for the mass Crusade Choir where he seemed to come alive!! Elder Weaver was anointed with a phenomenal gift of making the drums worship! On many occasions he would play himself into a Holy Ghost frenzy! With perspiration beads, Elder Weaver would minister on the drums until the power of the Lord fell upon all around him….he’d jump off the drums….dance before God….and jump back on to continue in the move of the spirit! Elder Weaver was especially excited to utilize his gift each year at the annual Holy Ghost Deeper Life Crusade Conventions. Elder Weaver helped to influence a generation of young musicians around the country.
In 1992 the Lord led Elder Weaver to relocate to Goldsboro, NC where his two beautiful daughters were born: Racquelle Dominique and Erica Chivonne. It was there he continued in ministry at the Original Tabernacle of Prayer in Goldsboro for several years under the leadership of Apostle Lawrence Bogier, before moving to the Raleigh Durham area.
A faithful servant at the Upper Room COGIC, Mark became a member in August 2000. Mark graduated Cum Laude in July 2008 from the COGIC Academy, after which he became an Ordained Elder and served in numerous capacities in the church. Mark served as the Secretary of the Men’s Executive Team in the Men’s Department, the Evangelism team with the Abortion Outreach Ministry and he served on the Transportation Ministry. He was an intricate part of the Music & Fine Arts Department having previously served as the Vice President and Director of the Choir. He was also an active member of the Philippian’s Auxiliary and the Opening Celebrations Committee Chair for FAM.
Ministry and soul winning was in his blood. Elder Weaver would never miss an opportunity to share the good news of Jesus Christ. He was a true man of God who loved to pray. A defender of the faith. He was known to boldly proclaim his faith in Christ while admonishing other Believers to do the same. Elder Weaver believed the Word of God without compromise (as evidenced by his recent Facebook posts on the subjects of same sex marriage and abortion). Elder Weaver was a gentle, kind hearted soul full of passion and conviction. He had a magnetic smile that would light up a room, and he knew when to use it! Elder Weaver seemed to know EVERYONE! He loved being around God’s people. He would strike a conversation with anyone, even total strangers sometimes lasting for hours.
Countless souls have been blessed by his encouragement and testimony even in the face of sickness in his body. In recent months he was heard to say “I don’t look like what I’m going through!”…..and he didn’t. Many would call or check on him to offer support, only to leave encouraged by him instead.
On March 15, 2014 the host of Heaven welcomed its newest member of the celestial percussion section, as Elder Weaver quietly transitioned from earth to glory. No more pain, no more sorrow, only rest in the arms of his Savior.
Elder Mark J. Weaver leaves to cherish his memory his two daughters Racquelle and Erica Weaver of Jamestown, NC; his parents Levon and Ella Weaver of Queens Village, NY; his two sisters Sandra (brother in law Andre) White of Middletown, NY and Pamela (brother in law Dalton) Newell of Yaphank, NY. Nephew and niece Daniel and Hannah Newell. A host of aunts, uncles, cousins, God children, his Upper Room COGIC and Tabernacle of Prayer for All People, Inc. families. Countless friends, fellow musicians, and loved ones touched by his life.
